My Community Work
My Community Work
I have been involved with a variety of different community agencies since 1996. In this time, I have worked with men, women and youth who were experiencing: historical sexual abuse, the effects of sexual violence/trauma, spousal assault, chronic and sometimes terminal illness, traumatic stress responses, depression and anxiety, significant life transitions, relationship issues, grief and loss. I have facilitated a range of groups and workshops and was one of the founding members of the Vancouver Island Men's Trauma Centre in Victoria, BC, 2003.
While I'm no longer working for a community agency, I continue to be involved in my community by: offering educational presentations to the community at large; facilitating workshops for counsellors, front line workers, and lay counsellors at community agencies; bringing speakers to town; and organizing and promoting trainings, events and workshops. I also support my community through the everyday choices that I make.
"I consider the care each of us gives our bodies, psyches and communities to be part of our political work."
